Writing about Saakshya
Updated 12 October 2026
Before you write
Saakshya is a non-profit we're setting up. The foundation isn't incorporated, it has no members yet, and the specification isn't published. Please don't describe us as incorporated, as a government body, or as endorsed by or affiliated with NPCI, UIDAI, MeitY or any other agency or company. We aren't. If you're not sure whether something is true, ask us.
Descriptions to copy
Use whichever length fits. You can change the wording, but please keep the facts.

Saakshya is a non-profit being set up in India to register the individual or organisation behind each AI agent, check their documents and issue the agent an identity. A bank, hospital or government office can then check who an agent is and who sent it. It's in formation, not yet incorporated.

Saakshya is a non-profit being set up in India to register the individual or organisation behind each AI agent, check their documents and the agent's details, and issue the agent an identity. A bank, hospital or government office can then check who an agent is, who sent it and what it did. Today a company can register its own agents in its own directory, but an outsider can't check them. Saakshya is working on the shared part: a register and an open standard for agent credentials. A reference implementation exists, designed to work with W3C's standards for digital credentials. The foundation isn't incorporated yet.

Saakshya is a non-profit being set up in India to register the individual or organisation behind each AI agent, check their documents and the agent's details, and issue the agent an identity. AI agents are starting to book, buy and file things for people. When one of them does something, a person or a company has to answer for it. But a hospital, bank or tax office that receives a request from an agent usually can't check who sent it, what it was allowed to do, or whether that permission was withdrawn last week.
Saakshya is working on the part that crosses company boundaries: a register of agents, and an open standard for the credentials they carry, so that anyone relying on an agent can find out who it is, who stands behind it and what it did. A reference implementation exists. The specification is being prepared for open publication, intended to be royalty-free.
The Saakshya Bharat Foundation is in formation as a Section 8 company and isn't incorporated yet. It has no board and no confirmed members, and it hasn't set any fees. It is independent of NPCI, UIDAI, MeitY and every company it mentions. One person started it.
How to say it
Say it SAAK-shya, with the stress on the first syllable. The Hindi is साक्ष्य, which means evidence, or a witness. It's one word, with a capital S, and it doesn't need a tagline. If you need one, "Every agent needs a witness" is ours.
The full name of the foundation is Saakshya Bharat Foundation (in formation). Please keep "in formation" until it has been incorporated.
The mark and the lockup
The mark is a fingerprint made of small bricks around one red square. The lockup sets it beside the word Saakshya.
The rules are short:
- Leave clear space around the mark of at least a quarter of its height. The lockup files already have it built in.
- Don't use the mark smaller than 24 pixels wide.
- Don't recolour it. Use the light version on light backgrounds and the dark version on dark ones.
- Don't stretch it, rotate it, or put it on a busy picture.
